But for one of our recent clients along a beautiful Hampton Roads lake, enjoying the outdoors came with a challenge: bugs. They loved to cook and entertain outside but wanted to create a space that allowed them to enjoy the views comfortably year-round — without the pests.

That’s where our Betterliving Sunrooms & Awnings of Hampton Roads team, a division of McDrake Remodeling, came in.

From Deck to Dream Space

Using the home’s existing deck as the foundation, our team reinforced the structure with concrete footers and additional posts to support the weight and design of the new 3-season sunroom. The finished room measures approximately 10’ x 21’, perfectly sized for entertaining, relaxing, and taking in the lake views.

The homeowner selected a white Betterliving 3-Season Sunroom featuring single-pane glass windows, doors, transoms, and knee walls. The front wall facing the water was designed to be 8’-6” above the floor, matching the door height from the main home and ensuring a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living.

The result? A bright, airy retreat that feels like part of the outdoors — but with the comfort and protection of being inside.
