Modern Coastal Bathroom Remodel in Virginia Beach
October 6th, 2026Andrea Picardi, Marketing Director
What happens when a dated bathroom meets a little coastal inspiration and a whole lot of thoughtful design?
You get a stunning bathroom transformation inspired by the colors, movement and beauty of tropical waters.
For this recently completed Virginia Beach bathroom remodel, the McDrake Remodeling team transformed an outdated, closed-in bathroom into a sophisticated coastal retreat. From the mermaid-scale-inspired tile details to the swirling blue-and-green quartz countertop, every finish was carefully selected to create a beautiful, relaxing space with a distinctive personality.
The result? A bathroom that feels like a modern coastal escape—right at home in Virginia Beach.
From Dated Bathroom to Modern Coastal Retreat
The original bathroom featured a large Jacuzzi-style soaking tub with surrounding tile that occupied a significant amount of the room. The dated flooring, vanity, shower, toilet and other finishes made the space feel ready for a complete refresh.
The homeowners wanted something more beautiful, functional and reflective of their personal style.
McDrake Remodeling completely reimagined the space, removing the oversized tub and surrounding tile to open up the room and create a more spacious, cohesive design.
The new bathroom combines soft greens, whites and watery shades of blue to create a sophisticated coastal-inspired bathroom design that feels both relaxing and luxurious.
Mermaid-Inspired Tile Details
One of the most eye-catching features of this Virginia Beach bathroom renovation is the tile.
The custom shower niche and tile flooring feature shapes and patterns reminiscent of mermaid scales, bringing the coastal inspiration to life without overwhelming the room.
The showstopping feature is the Glazzio Mermaids Collection tile in Naia. Its dimensional, scale-like appearance adds texture and visual interest while reinforcing the bathroom’s ocean-inspired aesthetic.
Paired with the porcelain MSI Watercolor Bianco flooring, the tile creates a beautiful contrast of pattern and subtle movement.
It’s a perfect example of how carefully selected tile can completely change the character of a bathroom.
A Statement Vanity by Green Forest Cabinetry
The custom Green Forest double vanity in Smoked Cashew adds warmth, color and sophistication to the space.
The rich cashew cabinetry immediately draws the eye, while the double vanity provides ample storage and functionality for everyday use.
Topping the vanity is Cambria Trafalgar quartz, a gorgeous surface featuring organic swirls of blues and greens that beautifully resemble tropical waters.
The combination of the cashew cabinetry and water-inspired quartz creates one of the room’s defining design moments.
It’s bold—but still elegant.
Luxurious Finishes for Everyday Comfort
Beautiful design is only part of a successful bathroom remodel. The right finishing touches can make the space feel even more comfortable and luxurious.
This bathroom includes an Anzzi wall-mounted electric towel warming rack, bringing a spa-like experience into the homeowners’ everyday routine.
Imagine stepping out of the shower and wrapping yourself in a warm towel.
It’s a small luxury that makes a big difference.
From the custom vanity to the carefully selected tile and upgraded fixtures, each element was chosen to balance beauty, functionality and long-term enjoyment.
