There’s something uniquely satisfying about giving new life to an outdated space, and our recent project on the Virginia Beach oceanfront was no exception! McDrake Remodeling took on the challenge of transforming an old-fashioned bathroom with bold, dated fixtures into a functional, modern masterpiece, designed to inspire relaxation while offering every contemporary convenience.
The original bathroom featured a pink jacuzzi tub and a layout that no longer suited the homeowner’s lifestyle. To create a fresh, updated look, we started with a full demo, clearing out the outdated elements and creating space for a functional, streamlined design that would make the most of the home’s beachfront charm.
To bring this bathroom fully into the present and make the most of its natural light, we took on additional structural updates. We removed several old walls and stripped away outdated wallpaper, creating a fresh, open concept that breathes new life into the room. We chose a clean, classic white paint for the walls and installed recessed lighting, which not only brightens the space but also allows sunlight to pour in through the skylight and newly updated windows.
We replaced the old jacuzzi tub with a large walk-in shower featuring glazed ceramic tile from Marazzi. With a chrome showerhead and fixtures, the shower boasts a sleek and contemporary feel, while a gray granite bench provides a touch of luxury and convenience. Nearby, a modern soaking tub invites relaxation with style and comfort.
A key feature of this remodel is the stunning new double vanity by Eclipse Cabinetry in Dark Elm, thoughtfully designed to elevate both style and function. The vanity’s modern design with polished chrome finishes brings a sleek sophistication to the space, while the rich wood tone adds warmth and contrast against the lighter tile and wall colors.
A pair of wide, matte black round mirrors anchor the vanity area, bringing a bold contrast against the clean white walls. Their simple yet striking design draws the eye, adding a touch of modernity and visual interest. The circular shape softens the overall look, breaking up the rectangular lines of the vanity and providing a harmonious balance in the room.
To maximize convenience, we also included additional counter space dedicated to makeup and personal care items. This expanded area offers ample room for daily routines, making it easy to stay organized. Beneath the counters, deep drawers and cabinets provide plenty of storage for bathroom essentials, eliminating clutter and keeping everything within reach.
These storage solutions are perfect for maintaining a clean, streamlined look, giving the bathroom a sense of order and luxury that complements its new open, modern layout.
Flooring sets the foundation for any bathroom remodel, and for this oceanfront home, we selected porcelain tile by Florida Tile. This flooring choice brings a beautiful, natural texture that complements the room’s modern elements, while its neutral tones tie seamlessly into the rest of the design.
Aside from aesthetics, durability was a top priority. The porcelain tile is not only visually appealing but also incredibly resilient and easy to maintain—perfect for high-traffic areas and humidity typical of beachfront homes.
This flooring choice grounds the room with a timeless elegance, giving it a polished look that will last for years to come.
